With a stay at Point Samson Resort, you are surrounded by the coastline of beautiful beaches.

Main Beach

Close to the Point Samson Tavern for a quick lunch and ideal for the family with smaller children. This beach is a long sandy beach with shower and toilet facilities, a short walk from the shoreline. Swimming is best at high tide. At low tide, a reef walk is a perfect place to see octopus, small fish caught in rock pools. clams, oysters and crabs. Be sure to wear sand shoes while exploring the reef.

Back Beach (Point Samson)

 

This offers many small coves and a long stretch of beach. It is great for swimming at high tide and also for snorkeling at half tide. During low tide it offers its reef for you to explore. This is adjoining main beach.

Honeymoon Cove

This is a great beach for the relaxer and for exploring. At high-tide Honeymoon Cove offers clear waters protected by surrounding rocks. The beach is sandy and ideal for sun-baking. At low-tide you can view fish and colorful coral on a strip of reef which runs the entire beach and offers a great snorkeling experience.

Here you can catch Mangrove Jacks, Barramundi, Cat Fish, Flathead, Bream, Golden Trevally and Queen Fish to name but a few

You may even be lucky enough to see turtles swimming within the rock beds.

Take a walk to John's Creek Boat Harbour, about a 8 minute walk from Point Samson Resort. Simply enjoy the view over the ocean.

If you are more adventurous you may want to explore the mud flats on low tide and perhaps find a mud crab to bring back and cook on the BBQ for dinner.

Why not cast a line from the  boat launching ramp which offer easy access to deep water fishing for shore based anglers. The waters of Point Samson contain a variety of fish, prawns and mud crabs. There are numerous fishing spots around town.

Point Samson is know to the locals as ‘The Oasis of The Pilbara’. Point Samson hosts beautiful beaches, whale watching, fishing, snorkelling, swimming, coral garden reefs, bird watching, kayaking and canoeing, walk heritage trails.

Wickham

Wickham

Wickham is a small mining town a ten minute drive from Point Samson & is an interesting stop on your way into Point Samson.

Wickham's Tank Hill provides a view like no other at sunset, enjoy fine views of the town and surrounding region.

Boat Beach is a beautiful sandy beach with excellent fishing and a boat launching ramp & if you have no luck catching your own, you could wait for Sunday lunch at the Port Walcott Yacht Club where you can enjoy the view and treat yourself to some fish & chips. (Seasonal times may vary)

Robe Rivers Giant Haul Pack is situated on Wickham Drive, and is a great photo opportunity.

Cossack

Cossack offers a great insight into the hardships and successes of the  early  settlers. Take a look at the restored buildings, or stop at the cemetery and piece together history from the headstones.

The look out at Cossack offers a great view which extends to the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Wharf. If the tide is in, Settlers Beach is a great spot for a swim. The old jetty makes a relaxing fishing spot which has  BBQ  facilities adjacent that you drive right up to.

The 6km Cossack Heritage Trail takes you past old sites and original stone buildings & offers a unique glimpse into the North West’s colonial past. Cossack was a centre for pearl divers from 1866. By the 1870s over 80 boats were operating out of the port and divers from Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and China were regularly stopping there. Host to the Cossack Art Awards held annually in July.

The modern town of Karratha, just a 45 min drive, was planned and constructed in 1968-9 as a joint State Government – Hamersley Iron project to meet the expanding accommodation needs of the mining company. Karratha has an extensive shopping complex said to be the biggest in the Pilbara,

Dampier

Located just 20kms west of Karratha, the pretty port town of Dampier is home to Red Dog, beaches including Hearson Cove & Ancient Aboriginal Rock Art (Murujuga National Park)

Dampier is also the largest tonnage port in Australia, housing the massive export facilities of Hamersley Iron, Dampier Salt and the North West Gas Shelf.
